DETROIT, MICHIGAN (BNO NEWS) – Nine members of the Hutaree, a Michigan Christian militia group, were indicted on charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, teaching the use of explosive materials, and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade announced on Monday.

David Brian Stone, 45, his wife, Tina Stone, 44, his son, Joshua Matthew Stone, 21 of Clayton, Michigan, and his other son, David Brain Stone Jr., 19, of Adrian, Michigan, Joshua Clough, 28, of Blissfield, Michigan, Michael Meeks, 40, of Manchester, Michigan, Thomas Piatek, 46, of Whiting, Indiana, Kristopher Sickles, 27, of Sandusky, Ohio, and Jacob Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio, aced as a Lenawee County Michigan militia group called the Hutaree, conspired to oppose by force the authority of the U.S. Government. Hutaree members view local, state, and federal law enforcement as the “brotherhood”, their enemy and were preparing to engage them in armed conflict.

The indictment alleges that the Hutaree planned to kill an unidentified local police officer and then attack the officers that attend the funeral. They will attack law enforcement vehicles with improvised explosive devices and projectiles.

David Brian Stone, the Hutaree’s leader, got information about such devices over the internet and emailed diagrams to a person he believe capable of manufacturing such weapons. Stone and his sons also taught other members of the Christian militia group how to operate explosive devices.

According to the Hutaree’s website they were Christ followers who will continue his mission and war against the upcoming arrival of the antichrist.

“Because the Hutaree had planned a covert recon operation for April which had the potential of placing an unsuspected member of the public at risk, the safety of the public and of the law enforcement community demanded intervention this time,” U.S. Attorney McQuade said.

Eight of the nine charged individuals are in custody while Joshua Stone is a fugitive. The defendants face penalties of 5 to 20 years in prison depending on the charges.
