Sep 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) First Lady Michelle Obama hosted her very first White House Dance Party yesterday, alongside her daughters, Sasha and Malia, who had just came home from their first day of school, and Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, who is present in many White House events.

The emotional highlight of the day was said to be a performance by ‘Revelations’, which was done by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. It was a tribute to the artistic director of the company, Judith Jamison, who is a very important persona in the dance world. Jamison is due to step down as the leader of the company in 2011, after leading the dance company for twenty years, according to the ‘Associated Press’.

The event was held in the East Room of the White House, and also featured a 90minute workshop from dancers who were specifically invited to celebrate dance. Mrs Obama shared with Jamison that the only piece of art which hung in her family’s house was a picture of Jamison performing the solo dance “Cry”. Mrs Obama called the 67 year old dancer “an amazing, phenomenal, “fly” woman.
