Michelle Obama honors Judith Jamison in a White House dance party

Washington DC, Sep 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The White House held a dance event yesterday to honor Judith Jamison of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

This is the first time the White House is holding a dance event since President Barack Obama took over the reign of the United States. There have been previous events like jazz, country music, classical music and Broadway at the White House.

The event, which was presided over by American first lady - Michelle Obama also featured performances by the daughters of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, Sasha and Malia Obama. There were performances by Paul Taylor Dance Company, member of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Cr3w, the Washington Ballet and The New York City Ballet.

There were some raw emotions on display when the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performed “Revelations” to pay tribute to its artistic director of the theater - Judith Jamison. It ought to be mentioned that Judith is set to step down as artistic director of the theater in 2011 and make way for Robert Battle to take over the position. Sixty-seven years old Judith is considered one of the best choreographers in the United States & she has served as the artistic director of the theater for 20 years.
