Los Angeles, Nov 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The First Lady and the wife of the US vice president got a rude awakening last weekend when they were booed before the start of the NASCAR race. Michelle Obama and Jill Biden were at the season finale of the race at Florida and they gave the ceremonial “Gentleman, start your engines.”

Shortly after the announcement, the crowd got into a chorus of boos which quickly drowned the cheers that came from a section of the crowd. It was not a pleasant welcome for the First and Second Ladies of the country as they made it back to their seats to enjoy the race.

The two women were at the venue primarily because of Michelle’s Joining Forces program which honors military personnel and their families. The reception during the race was shocking because just a few moments earlier, the two women had been given a standing ovation during the pre-race festivities.

During the pre-race event, Michelle told the crowd that NASCAR has played a crucial role in her campaign. She said that the racing car has been “amazing in terms of its support, not just today but every day for military families.”

President Barack Obama will be standing for reelection in 2012.
