ambassador-owenOn CNN Fareed Zakaria presented an interview with Israeli Ambassador to the U.S on the possibility of Israel attacking Iran in close future. The tenacious plodding got us some good revelations.

Dr Michael Oren, the Israeli Ambassador to U.S. said that they were “far from even contemplating” an attack to leverage against Iran’s nuclear updates. On being asked critical questions like was Israel being threatened by weaponry and nuclear arsenal of Iran; and why Israel was fortifying its stance by 250 nuclear weapons, when there was no harm intended against Iran in reality, Oren agreed as per Zakaria, citing that they were “deeply uncomfortable and nervous” about the “idea of engagement” with Iran initially but had later recovered from that situation when they were “greatly comforted during the Prime Minister’s (Benjamin Netanyahu) visit here ( in the U.S.) in May.” He said he was happy about “serious reassessment of policy” that the Iranian Minister agreed to bring about by September.

In early August Israel had wanted Iran to change policy in regard to Hezbollah and Hamas terrorist groups. Oren had said that they would be keeping an eye if there was any breakdown of constitution (rule) in Iran. That they would be welcoming any dominating leadership emergence and that Israel would want that Iran moderate its disposition and formulate a reliable Islamic Republic.

Oren said, “Israel has supported the Obama administration’s approach of outreach and engagement with Iran.”

He clarified to Zakaria on the show GPS saying, “Israeli’s position is that Israel will not be the first country to introduce nuclear weaponry in the Middle East.”
