Los Angeles, March 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Monday, Michael David Barrett has been sentenced to two and a half years of jail term by a U.S. District Judge in the Los Angeles courthouse. He would also have to pay $5,000 as fine and $7,366 in restitution. The Illinois Insurance executive was rebuked by the ESPN reporter Erin Andrews when he apologized in front of her on Monday. The Judge Manuel Real has however mentioned that the court has given the criminal the maximum sentence that was possible in this case under law.
Michael David Barrett had pleaded guilty last December of following the ESPN reporter to many places and shooting her nude in her hotel room through the peephole of the hotel rooms. He then has also tried to sell those videos to a website, according to reports. This has led to the flooding of the video in the internet.
On Monday, after the sentence was passed, Erin Andrews said that this was not enough for such a culprit. She said that the court should give him a harsher punishment. When Michael David Barrett apologized for his deed in front of the reporter, she said that by secretly filming her nude Michael David Barrett has violated not only her but all other women. Erin Andrews reportedly called Michael David Barrett a sexual predator a “sexual deviant” and said that the court should put him behind bars. Erin Andrews also added that with her nude videos on the internet she had to suffer from the mental trauma every day, which can never be compensated.
Manuel Real, the U.S District Judge reiterated the words of Erin Andrews and said that though the court cannot impose any life sentence upon the criminal, he would be left to suffer from the guilt conscience for the rest of his life.
