Miami Beach Castle Engulfed In Flame

July 18th, 2009 - 6:54 pm ICT by GD Tell a Friend -

miami beach castleOn Friday, a disastrous fire put a sad end to a fairy tale castle resembling that of the Fantasy Land, in the beach front property in Miami. Firefighters braved the fire for quite a prolonged period to bring it under control, however, the quick spreading flame went on to engulf almost the whole of the mansion which is known as the “North bay Road Castle“. A long drawn battle with the fire that took well over two hours to be brought under check, was initiated by the team of expert firemen. Fire Rescue Chief Javier Otero said that the sprawling mansion had been vacant for quite sometime and had a lot of niche and corners where the fire could hide, because it was mostly made up of wood.

In the 1990s, captain Michael Burke, the founder of Windjammer Barefoot Cruises had built this gray stone fairy tale mansion all complete with figurines of gargoyles on the walls, dragons carved on the backyard grotto and sharks in the moat. The house did not find favor with the neighbors ever though, as one said that he was happy to see the house go up in flames, referring to it as the ‘devil’s house’.

The mansion has 10 bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a billiard room and a home theater, as is listed on a luxury real estate web site. It has been vacant for a very long time and the current listing agent for the property said that the present owner had been making plans to have the sea front property demolished. The property has been listed for sale at $6.9 million.
