Mexico’s Carlos Slim is the richest man in the world
March 12th, 2010 - 1:18 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) – Mexico’s Carlos Slim Helu was on top of Forbes World’s Billionaire list that was announced Thursday.
The telecom magnate topped out America’s Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, becoming the first Latin American and the first from a developing country to hold the number one spot of this list.
Slim’s fortune was estimated at $53.5 billion, which represents an increase of $18.5 billion in the last 12 months.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are now worth $53 and $47 billion, respectively.
Forbes announced individuals topping other categories.
The richest woman: Christy Walton, who inherited Wal-Mart in 2005, is worth $22.5 billion.
The youngest billionaire: Mark Zuckerberg, 25, founder of the social networking website, Facebook, is worth $4 billion.
The richest celebrity: actress Angelina Jolie, pocketing $27 million in the past 12 months alone.
