Mexican flag cartoon Mexico City, Sep 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mexicans are fuming over a cartoonist’s drawing of their flag.

The cartoonist - Daryl Cagle, drew the Mexican flag and instead of the regal looking eagle that is in the middle of the flag, Cagle drew what appears to be a falling eagle with several bullets to its body. The drawing, which was published, on the front-page of most Mexican newspapers was meant to depict the latest violence that have engulfed the country.

Over 28,000 Mexicans have been killed in a drug related violence that threatens to very security of the country and Cagle, who is a political cartoonist says that is exactly what he wants to depict his paintings with.

But Mexicans are understandably angry at the drawing. They say that like the American flag, the Mexican flag was defended with the blood of the ancestors and they take offense at the mockery that the drawing sought to bring to the flag.

But the Mexican Embassy in Washington took a diplomatic stand on the issue. It said in a statement that though it believes in the freedom of speech and expression, they do not agree with Cagle using the Mexican flag to portray such a message.

Cagle has acknowledged that he has received several emails and messages on his blog, but has not publicly come out to apologize for the cartoon.
