MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) –Two Mexican fugitives from the US government were transferred to the U.S. authorities on Thursday, Mexico’s Attorney General office said.

Jesus Navarro and Hugo Varela were delivered in extradition to FBI agents at the Mexico City International Airport yesterday evening.

Jesus Navarro is accused of two different charges, one against health and another for second grade murder. He was arrested on September 23rd 2007 at a campsite on the California desert on charges of marijuana smuggling. Later on January 19th 2008 he ran over a policeman and killed him while he was escaping from custody.

Hugo Varela is wanted by the Volusia County, Florida under murder charges. On September 12th 1998, Varela shot several times at a man, killing him.

Both men were arrested and taken into custody on local jails, until the extradition papers were complete.

“With this action the Mexican government reassures its commitment with justice and cooperation with the US government to avoid that the national territory is used by fugitives as a hideout”, the Mexican government said.
