TUCSON, ARIZONA (BNO NEWS) – A Mexican citizen on Wednesday was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for cocaine smuggling.

David Efrain Flores-Castro, 33, was sentenced to prison after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents noticed that a Ford Lobo (F-150), driven by Flores-Castro, contained a false compartment in the bed. Further investigation revealed 57 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the false bed, at bulk value worth over one million dollars.

A federal grand jury indicted Flores-Castro in September 2008 for two felony counts: Importing 5kg or More of Cocaine and Possession With the Intent to Distribute 5kg or More of Cocaine.

Due to his unlawful status in the U.S., Flores-Castro will face immediate deportation upon completion of his prison term.

The investigation in this case was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
