UPPER DARBY, PENNYSLVANIA (BNO NEWS) – A 16-year-old boy stole a bus and crashed it into several cars in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, local media said.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority bus was stolen from the Victory Division facility. Upper Darby police were alerted promptly and began their pursuit of the stolen motor vehicle only minutes later.

The bus later crashed into fifteen vehicles after the teenager entered a parking lot and lost control. One of the vehicles was occupied by four people, but none was injured. The bus finally stopped completely after hitting a light standard.

The boy ran out of the bus, but police officers were able to successfully apprehend him after a brief pursuit.

According to Michael Chitwood of the Upper Darby Police Department, the unnamed boy is mentally disabled and has the capacity of an 8-year-old boy. He claimed to have taken the bus, which was empty at a transit depot, in order to practice for a driving test.

The boy is currently in custody and is awaiting charges, though his release is very probable in order for him to be settled in a group home.
