bearded1Nov 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The ‘No Shave November’ charity event will see university students from across America refrain from shaving throughout the month in hope to raise awareness for various and also help the needy. Though the origins of the custom is unknown, university students from across the country have been following it for years.

One university student who organized the event for the second time in his university, explained that the idea of the effort was to get people to donate things after getting tired of seeing the beards. Students usually refrain from any shaving or trimming of any hair on their body. One student said that last year he celebrated No Shave November till February when things got slightly nasty.

Most universities organize the event through Facebook and the as many as 160 students from the Catholic University of America have participated in the event this year. The organizer said that last year the event was done in very small scale but this year the participation from th university students is much more and therefore a better proceed is expected.

One source claims that the No Shave November idea might have its origin in 2003. Males were inspired by the efforts of the women towards breast cancer awareness and thus wanted to create something that would spread awareness about male health globally. Several students have also shown support for the charitable idea saying that they like to remain unshaven and have the rugged look. Many have shown relief at the freedom from the daily drudgery of shaving. Some, however, have also shown concern about the opposite sex, a significant section of which might not like the idea.
