Melissa Huckaby Pleads Guilty To The Sandra Cantu Killing

California, May 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A woman from California has admitted to murdering an eight year old girl named Sandra Cantu. The accused, Melissa Huckaby is now held guilty of kidnapping and killing the 8 year old child and then throwing her body in an irrigation pond after packing it in a suitcase. The 29 year old woman will be sentenced to prison for a period of 25 years after the hearing on the 14th of June.
California police have reported that the dead body of Sandra Cantu was retrieved from the pond after almost 10 days of search, from the day she went missing in the month of March this year. Melissa Huckaby had earlier admitted that the suitcase which contained the body belonged to her, but also said that the same was stolen from her house before the incident actually took place. Thus it came as a surprise to the police when she suddenly took the blame of upon her on Monday. Sandra Cantu was the playmate of Melissa Huckaby’s daughter.
Her guilty plea at the San Joaquin County Superior Court has forced the authorities to drop the two other charges of rape and lascivious conduct with a child under the age of 14 years which could also have been recorded. This also means that Melissa Huckaby will not be charged with the death penalty.
Her surprise plea yesterday came as a relief to the residents of the mobile park area where the incident took place in the of March. Sandra Cantu was last spotted in the area on 27th March after which police found her dead body in a black suitcase which they said belonged to Melissa Huckaby.
