Apr 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A college in New York has been chosen as the school of choice by a set of 17 year old quadruplets from Setauket on Long Island, who have all decided to study there this fall. Only one of the four had serious doubts, and was afraid that she would spend her college years known as “one of the quadruplets.”

Grace, Erin, Bobby and Danny Mele will attend Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y., in the fall. The hold up on the final decision was Grace. She soon decided that it would be too traumatic to separate from her siblings, who are very close. “We’re going to savor these next few years together,” she said. Their father was overwhelmed with joy, and cried when he heard that they would stay together. Some joke that his tears were actually because of the price that the kids’ education will cost…with scholarships and sibling discounts, the annual bill is estimated to be approximately 74,000 dollars.

In 2009, four quadruplets who were freshman at Indiana University were managing to pull it off with Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars program. They keep their scholarships to Indiana University, or any state school, as long as they maintain good grades — and good behavior, which includes not drinking or using drugs. Every year since eighth grade, Allison, Eric, Melanie and Vanessa, the Torline quadruplets, have signed pledges agreeing to abide by those rules. In December of 2009, a set of quadruplets were admitted into Yale. Ray, Kenny, Carol, and Martina Crouch were all offered a spot in its early admission program. It was the first time that the school had offered admission to quadruplets. The foursome, who were born over two months premature, have come a long way.
