Melanie Goodwin’s murder case took a u-turn, as Surveillance cameras at multiple locations showed the accused, Ernesto Reyes, stalking the victim, Goodwin, and then coldly carrying out the grisly work of disposing her body. Although it has been noted that Reyes was involved in the murder of the University of North Texas student in the year 2007, the accused is supposed to get “a life imprisonment” instead of a death sentence.

In September 2007, Melanie Goodwin’s burned body was found in Carrollton, Texas. Investigators had revealed that the North Texas University student had been killed by blunt force trauma, before she was burned. Surveillance footage showed Reyes speaking to Goodwin at the night of the murder and later on asked her for a ride to a convenience store. The visuals also showed a man, allegedly Reyes, dodging out Goodwin’s body from a car.

According to the reports, Reyes was a stranger to Goodwin. The prime witness of the case, Donovan Young, who is supposed to be a friend of Reyes said that accused had come to his apartment that very night. His shirt had traces of blood stains as according to Young, Reyes revealed that he had murdered Goodwin. Reyes reportedly told Young that he didn’t want to kill Goodwin and asked for help. Young also revealed that he helped Goodwin by giving him a gas can and money and later, went on to help Goodwin to hide his car.

Ernesto Reyes will now serve a life imprisonment. Peggy Goodwin, the mother of Melanie Goodwin shed tears as she said,”In this world we would never know how many lives she would have touched or changed for good. You can stop her heart beat, but you can’t resist her spirits.”
