Nov 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Radio personality Meg McLain went through an ordeal that no woman would want to go through while trying to board a flight at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. She recalled the horrific incident on her radio show and said that she was singled out at the airport by the TSA staff to go through the controversial body scanners. On refusing to comply with the TSA agents, they handcuffed her to a chair and tore her ticket.
Once Meg McLain refused to go under the body scanner which reveals one’s form underneath one’s clothes, she was given the choice of undergoing a check that involved touching her breasts and feeling her body. On asking the officials what they wanted to do with her, the TSA agents raised a huge ruckus and handcuffed her. Meg McLain was also not allowed to contact anyone at this time. Then they tore her ticket and called the Miami Police, who arrived with a 12 man squad, to escort her out of the airport. Meg McLain reportedly cried through the entire ordeal. She shared her traumatic experience on the radio and raised some important questions on the legitimacy of the TSA and the rights of the travelers.
The full body scanners used by the TSA in several airports across the country has come under heavy scrutiny in recent months. The scanners, often referred to as porno-scanners, allow the authorities to see beneath the clothes of the subject. The scanner caused a huge media buzz when it was reported that the TSA authorities had been storing the images of the subjects. With concerns about child pornography and misuse of the images, many have called for a ban on the machines.
