Mecklenburg County DSS probes disappearance of $162,000
November 8th, 2009 - 10:35 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMecklenburg, Nov 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services, probes the disappearance of $162,000 which was supposed to help needy children.
Media obtained lots of emails, which detail the DSS money scam. The emails show that the DSS officials suspect that an employee wrote $80,000 in checks to herself from donations meant for the needy children. In another astonishing email, an administrator asked why donations were used to buy $340 diamond earrings, leather coats and a $300 DVD player too as these items had no correlation with the needs of the poor children.
A top executive complained in an email, that a senior accounting administrator couldn’t answer co-workers because of her “inability to explain the simplest concepts of revenue and expenses.”
As of now, no one has been charged in an ongoing investigation into the missing sum, and a county report says officials cannot be sure where the money actually went.
