McLaren MP4-12C GT3 Coming In 2012

Dec 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The lovers of GT sports car racing will witness the comeback of McLaren in the arena in 2012 as the company based in Woking has joined hands with CRS Racing to develop GT3 racing cars. The cars will be based on the much touted McLaren MP4-12C prototype. CRS racing a UK based racing team will offer the engineering assistance. The production of the cars will be kept limited and they will mostly be supplied to private teams based in Europe. Martin Whitmarsh the head of McLaren said the development should not come as a surprise to the racing industry veterans. He added “We have a legendary history in global motorsport, including GT racing, and we aim to maintain that reputation with this GT3 programme”. He did not rule out the possibility of developing more sports car models in future.
The molded carbon chassis of the 12C is rather lightweight and it would prove to be a suitable platform for building a super fast racing car hopes the company. CRS Racing Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy said in his statement that the focus of this program would be customer service and that explains why the number of the cars will be kept limited. The running cost of these cars will not be on the higher side he assured. The ease of maintenance and exceptional performance will lure the racing teams to opt for this car.
The details on the McLaren 12C GT3 racing car programme will be revealed next year. The news is a good one for the sports car fanatics as McLaren F1 GTR emerged winner in 24 Hours of Le Mans 15 years back.
