maytagAccording to the sources, Maytag had reportedly said on Tuesday that it will be recalling about 46,000 refrigerators that are under the Maytag, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand names. The recall has been announced on the basis of a reported fire hazard that can be caused on the usage of the refrigerators that belong to these particular brands.

Maytag has cited the reason for this recall is to avoid any sort of untoward accidents or mishap. Due to an electrical failure in the device that accidentally turns on the compressor, the company said that there are high chances of “over heating” which may lead to fire related hazards.

According to the inside sources, around 1.6 million of such refrigerators were recalled in March. Maytag, which is currently a part of the Whirlpool Corp. , reportedly said that it has received 23 more reports of refrigerators catching fire due to the technical failure within the system, that accidentally turns the compressor on, thus leading to “over heating” of the system.

Moreover, out of these 23 reports concerning the mishap, 4 reports dealt with total property damage or smoke damage. The aforementioned refrigerators that are in question regarding the hazards, are side by side and top-freezer refrigerators made in black, bisque, white and stainless steel. These refrigerators are priced between $350 and $1,600 and were reportedly sold from September 2000 to May 2004.

The company has announced that the consumers who own the defective machines should immediately inform Maytag in order to schedule a free in-home repair instead of returning the refrigerator.
