New York, Sept 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Maurice Sendak’s latest children book has received a cold reception especially from parents. “Bumble-Ardy” is the first children’s book that Sendak has written but several parents and guardians say the content scares them.

The story in the book is about a nine-year-old pig named Bumble. Being an orphan, Bumble lived with his aunt. He had never had a party before so he decided to help himself with the best party when his aunt was not in the house. The party then turned horrific with some strange characters coming into the house.

Most of the parents who have criticized the book say the characters look too frightening especially for the intended readers – children. Sendak has defended his book saying children already have worse nightmarish fantasies in their mind.

During an interview with the New York Times, Sendak defended that, “keep [kids] calm, keep them happy, keep them snug and safe… I got out of that, and I was considered outlandish. So be it.”

This is not the first time a project from Sendak has generated controversy. In 1963, the book “Where the Wild Things Are” was criticized for being too frightening. Nonetheless, the book rose to become one of the bestselling books of Sendak.
