June 16, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Bullfighting is practiced in the countries of Mexico, Spain, France and in others. It was originally influenced by the Spanish culture. The brave matador or the torero is required to fight with the bull and kill it in the end. One needs to be very brave at heart and strong physically, to perform this.

Christian Hernandez, a Mexican matador could not take the strain and lost his nerve. He fled from the bull ring, breaching the contract. He was arrested after the bullfight as the organizers complained against him. Later, he was released after he paid the fine.

Scared Christian Hernandez threw away his red cape and ran away from the charging bull in an event at the Plaza Mexico in Mexico City on Sunday. The 22 year old matador jumped over the shielding wall at the edge of the ring. The crowd, who were more interested in their entertainment, kept whistling and mocking him.

For a short period, he was convinced of facing the bull again but was too terrified to face the half-ton beast and left the ring swiftly.

A few months back, the matador was hurt in the leg in another bullfight. He admitted that he could not control his nerve and would choose to retire from this risky job. Hernandez added, “You must know a few things about yourself, like I can’t do this as I don’t have the ability. This is not my cup of tea.”

The matador has vowed that he would never be back on the ring again.
