May 3, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The state assembly in Massachusetts enacted an anti-bullying law on Thursday. The objective of the law is to put a stop to the recurrence of a heartbreaking incident in the state that finished with the suicide of an Irish immigrant girl at a neighboring school.

The bill is now projected to be affirmed by the governor of the state. The bill necessitates the workforce of the school to acknowledge and scrutinize bullying. The bill also lays down how bullying, widespread in schools, can be classified as felonies, including pestering or criminal persecution.

The characterization of bullying in the law consists of aggravation over the Internet, or ‘cyber-bullying’. The characterization of bullying also consists of telephonic harassment and the more apparent bodily belligerence or construction of an intimidating environment.

Nine students have been indicted in the harrying of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince. She hung herself on January 14. Police representatives have declared that the hanging was subsequent to an unpitying operation of bullying at the South Hadley High School.

Elizabeth Scheibel is the local district attorney. She has mentioned that the accused children made Prince’s last day on earth an unforgettably tortuous one.
