Massachusets man sentenced for robbing a New Hampshire pharmacy

CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE (BNO NEWS) – A Massachusetts man was sentenced for robbing a New Hampshire Rite Aid pharmacy, prosecutors said Monday.

Joseph Savio, 31, of Lynn, Massachusetts, and Joseph Gordinas broke into a Rite Aid pharmacy in Ossipee, New Hampshire at approximately 3:00 a.m. local time, filled a sack with controlled substances stolen from a locked cabinet, and then fled the scene.

Police responded to the store alarm and engaged in a high speed pursuit of a vehicle operated by Savio’s brother, Mark Savio. Gordinas and Joseph Savio ran from the vehicle after it stopped as Mark Savio continued driving after the others ran from it.

Mark Savio was later caught hiding in a wooded area in the vicinity of the vehicle. Gordinas and Joseph Savio were arrested several hours later. The sack of controlled substances was recovered from the area in which Gordinas and Joseph Savio fled.

Joseph Savio as sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison after pleading guilty to the May 16, 2009 burglary. Following his prison term, he will serve three years of supervised release.
