New York, Sept 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial will be dedicated on the 16th of October. The monument was initially intended to be unveiled on the 27th of August but the threat of Hurricane Irene forced the organizers to push the event to another date.

On Sunday, the executive architect of the monument assured that the event will “definitely” take place on the new date. Ed Jackson Jr. revealed that the organizers will meet on Monday where they will put the final details together.

Jackson told reporters that, “We have to go back and confirm all of the speakers and entertainers that were planned.”

The officials of the monument have been working on it for the past 26 years and Jackson is confident that finally the monument will be opened to the public. $120 million have so far been spent on the project.

Jackson’s optimism was not confirmed on the website of the memorial. The National Park Service is also not aware of the impending event. A spokesperson of the service was not in the position to state if a permit has been granted for the new date.

Jackson however says that will be sorted out at the appropriate time.
