London, Jan 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Novelist Martin Amis wants euthanasia booths near streets, so that elderly people can go there, and end their lives with dignity. He says that old people who want to say adieu to their lives, can do with a ‘martini and a medal.’ He even went on to say that Britain would have an internal strife, if the problem of the aging population were not taken care of.

“How is society going to support this silver tsunami? There’ll be a population of demented very old people, like an invasion of terrible immigrants, stinking out the restaurants and cafes and shops. I can imagine a sort of civil war between the old and the young in 10 or 15 years’ time. They’ll be a population of demented very old people, like an invasion of terrible immigrants, stinking out the restaurants and cafes and shops,” he said in an interview in The Sunday Times Magazine. He said that he thought that with the burden of the aging population, there would be a civil war between the older generation, and the youth in 10-15 years.

There is no doubt that his comments were not liked by the anti-euthanasia community, and they even went to the extent of labeling them as ‘glib’ and ‘offensive’. Whereas the group that supports ‘assisted suicide’ said that there ought to be a way out, for all the elderly people who want to die in a dignified and a decent manner.
