Sep 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Acclaimed author Mark Twain has finally got some recognition in Nevada, which is the place from where he kick-started his writing career as a journalist more than a century ago.

The Nevada State Board on Geographic Names wants to honor him and has passed a proposal to name a cove after the comic-writer’s name. Apparently the cove, which is located on Lake Tahoe’s northeast shore, happens to be the very place where he non-intentionally started off a wildfire in the year of 1861, when he was cooking food over a campfire. However the cove would only be officially named after Samuel Clemens, which was Mark Twain’s real name after the US Board on Geographic Names ratifies the proposal.

“The name is fitting because he became Mark Twain here and developed his voice here. It’s also fitting because his description of Lake Tahoe in `Roughing It’ is breathtaking,” according to Nevada state Archivist Jeff Kintop. The beauty of Lake Tahoe moved Mark a lot, and he spoke about its beauty when he penned the lines – “As it lay there with the shadows of the mountains brilliantly photographed upon its still surface, I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole earth affords.”
