islandSan Diego, Oct. 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Coast Guard plane and a marine helicopter collided with each other on Thursday night, near the San Clemente island in South California. Although intrinsic details have not been available, officials have added that the clash reportedly took place around 7:10 p.m. A rescue operation has been launched immediately following the collision.

Ian Gregor, Federal Aviation Administration Spokesperson later confirmed that the clash took place between Coast Guard transport flight C-130 and a Camp Pendleton AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter, with seven people in the coast guard flight and two persons on the other helicopter. He also added that a pilot supposedly also saw a fireball in the area where the clash is reported to have taken place. However, the actual reason which led to the collision is still not clear, as the weather conditions during the clash is presumed to have been favorable. Even when the rescue operations were initiated, the weather was pleasant and it did not pose any hurdle to the search process which engaged two Navy vessels as well as many helicopters and a number of coast guard cutters. The coast guard launched extensive search in and around the San Clemente island to look for the nine possible survivors. However, any breakthrough has not been reported as yet.

San Clemente island is located in the southern region of the Channel Island of California and is owned as well as handled by the United States army although it is uninhabited otherwise. In the month of May this year, two other accidents took place at the San Diego County in which military planes were reported to be involved.
