Maria Shriver apologizes for driving while using cell phone
October 16th, 2009 - 12:33 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattSacramento, Oct 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) California first lady Maria Shriver, wife of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger apologizes for breaking a state law that requires drivers to use hands-free devices while talking on cell phones. She was caught on the camera and in a video also talking on the phone while driving.
The celebrity Web site TMZ.com posted two photographs and a video on Tuesday showing Maria Shriver holding a cell phone to her ear while she was herself driving. That prompted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to write about it on Twitter, where he said “there’s going to be swift action.”
On Wednesday, Maria Shriver seemed very apologetic and said that she will donate her favorite old cell phone to a program that helps domestic violence. She added: “That’s my version of swift action with a higher purpose.”
Schwarzenegger joked about the incident during a speech Wednesday at a technology conference in San Francisco, saying, “I’m in big trouble.”
The celebrity website TMZ.com had said that one of Maria’s pictures with the offending phone was shot in July and this was not the first time that she was caught violating the law.
The Californian law permits drivers to use a hands-free while driving. Maria Shriver’s statement did not say whether she would use a hands-free device in the future. Her office also had no further comment on this matter.

Great she made an apology. But she should be ticketed and pay the $100+ fine, like everyone else who gets caught!
