Panama City, Dec 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega has returned to the country after serving almost 20 years in prison on foreign lands. He was immediately picked by the police and whisked away to the prison.

He has been sentenced to at least three 20-year jail terms for political killings. There was protest against the police for the speed with which they whisked the former leader to jail.

Noriega is noted for being the worst dictator in the history of Panama. He is accused of killing several people who did not agree with him politically. Several Panamanians are hoping that justice will finally be served once the 77-year-old has been taken to custody.

Some however believes that he should just be put away because he is not relevant anymore. The head of the Panama’s army before Noriega came to power agrees with that point. He told the Washington Post that, “I don’t think Noriega has anything hugely important to say. The things he knows about have lost relevance, because the world has changed and the country has, as well.”

Noriega served a 17-year prison term in the United States for drug trafficking. He also spent almost two years in a French jail before being sent to Panama via Madrid.
