Nov.18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the approach of winter season, different birds and animals have started to migrate from colder places to the warmer regions. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has recently announced that winter has come to Central Florida and the time for Manatee’s migration has arrived. Therefore, boats should be very careful about the animals while they go for fishing in the Tampa Bay or any of its tributaries.
As the migration season of the Manatees or the sea cows has arrived, boats have started to follow the slow speed zones instructions from this Sunday. They will have to move cautiously in the slow speed zones till March 31, 2010. Authorities have formed these rules to save the manatees, which is listed among the endangered species in the world. It has been reported by sources that this year alone 17 manatees had died in the Hillsborough county region after crashing against boats. This is almost double than the records of 2007 & 2008.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission does not want the deaths of manatees to increase steeply, so they have already declared slow speed zones in the places where Manatees might migrate. Sources reported that around three hundred and fifty manatees or sea cows would be traveling through the Tampa Bay as well as its tributaries. As the temperature reduces, these animals are expected to gather around the Big Bend Power Station of Tampa Electric Company in Apollo Beach. Boats that will travel through this region need to drive slowly and give enough space for the manatees so that they can move freely in the water.
