DES MOINES, IOWA (BNO NEWS) – A North Carolina man on Thursday was sentenced after failing to pay child support, prosecutors said.

Charles A. Penn, 42, formerly of Oskaloosa, Iowa, was sentenced to ten months in federal prison after pleading guilty to failure to pay child support. Penn was also ordered to serve one year of supervised release after completion of his imprisonment, pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund, and restitution of $91,559.78.

Penn has been ordered to pay child support and back child support by the Iowa District Court in 2006, but failed to pay as directed by the court. The case was referred to the federal government after Penn left the State of Iowa.

Penn was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Southern District of Iowa in December 2008. He pled guilty in July 2009 to the charge of failing to pay the child support obligation.

This case was prosecuted in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa as part of a federal initiative involving the Iowa Child Support Recovery Unit.
