Man In Wheelchair Hit By BART Train

BART TrainHayward, Nov 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The wheelchair-bound man who was hit by a BART train on Saturday afternoon is still in critical condition. A spokesperson for the Eden Medical Center addressed the media and confirmed that 64 year old Curtis Fuller was still in a critical state. Emergency officials who found the 64 year old trapped underneath the train said that he was unconscious at the scene of the accident but breathing.

The incident occurred around 3pm on Saturday when Curtis Fuller was trying to adjust something in his wheelchair and one of the wheels came off. Unfortunately, the 64 year old landed on the tracks of the BART train in Hayward and was hit by a Richmond bound 6-car train. He was rushed to the Eden Medical Center in an ambulance after he was rescued from beneath the train with the help if firefighters and BART police. Reports suggest that the rescue operations went on for quite sometime and onlookers have said that he was run over by the train.

Investigators also found a gun on the tracks after the accident and investigations are ongoing about the source of the weapon. Police said that it was unclear at this point whether the gun belonged to Curtis Fuller or not. The accident temporarily stopped train service between Downtown station and Fremont. BART spokesperson Linton Johnson said that the accident occurred due to the falling off of the wheels from the platform. He also added that the 64 year old was pulled out at 3:20pm. Regarding the gun, the spokesperson said that they are not sure whether the gun was related to the incident.
