Texas, Nov 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In what can be termed as poetic justice, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who is charged with killing 13 people at the largest US military base in Fort Hood, Texas, on November 5, 2009, is now paralyzed from the chest down, as a result of the 4 bullets which entered his body in the shoot-out. His shoot-out, which mowed down 13 people, is said to be the worst act of terrorism since 911 on U.S. soil.
“He has no sensation from the nipple area down,” Hasan’s civilian attorney, John P. Galligan, said in a telephone interview to the media.
During a closed-door hearing in Hasan’s hospital room on Saturday that lasted about an hour, a magistrate ruled that Hasan be confined until his military trial, Galligan said.
“In the middle of this hearing, he started to nod off and go to sleep,” Galligan said. “When I’ve spoken with him, he’s coherent, but your ability to have any meaningful exchange with him is limited in time and subject.”
Major Hasan will be in confinement until his court-martial by the Army. The date for the court-martial is still to be decided by the Army. As of now, he is charged with 13 counts of murder, in the Fort Hood shoot-out case. But there may be additional charges also as the investigating agencies have found a 9/11 link with him too.
