Madeleine Albright’s ‘Read My Pins’ Book and Exhibit
May 18th, 2010 - 2:09 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonMay 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The first woman in the country to ever become a United States Secretary of State has long been known to communicate how she is feeling, as well as what she is thinking, and what she plans to do through a very unique and sly way- by which brooch she has chosen to wear to any given event.
Madeleine Albright’s pins have already been on display at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, on September 30, and will be leaving the William J Clinton Presidential Center on June 1, of this year. The exhibit called “Read My Pins” opened on February 15, 2010, and contains over 200 famous brooches owned by Madeleine Albright. The Clinton Center is only the second place to have the privilege of hosting this magnificent display.
And now Madeleine Albright has released a book by the same name “Read My Pins” which shares the story of some of her most famous brooches, such as the golden snake pin she proudly wore after Saddam Hussein’s people called her a serpent, and the bug pin which she wore in December of 1999, after hearing about a room at the State Department being bugged. She wore an angel to Africa to honor the dead who were killed at the bombings of American Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya. These pins represented Madeleine Albright’s sense of humor as well as her strong diplomacy. Newsweek has photos of some of these pins here
