Lunch-only Beer Rule Ignites Remonstrations In Denmark

April 9, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Loads of employees of Carlsberg walked out on their profession in a display of remonstration on Thursday. This step was taken subsequent to the Danish brewer making its slipshod regulations on drinking in the workplace strict. This step was also prompted by the act of Carlsberg of doing away with beer coolers from the locations of work in the company. This information has been divulged by a spokesperson of the company.

The storehouse and production employees in Denmark are revolting against the company’s latest alcohol strategy. This strategy will permit them to gulp beer only during lunch hours in the canteen. In the past, they could facilitate themselves to guzzle beer throughout the day, from the coolers positioned around the locations of work. The spokesperson of the company, Jens Bekke, has mentioned that the only constraint in the past was that they could not be inebriated at work. It was up to each individual to be conscientious.

Carlsberg had given consideration to a severer drinking strategy for years. At last, it resolved to enforce the fresh regulations on April 1. This spurred objections from the personnel.

Bekke has observed that approximately 800 personnel had gone on strike on Wednesday and some 250 employees walked away from their jobs on Thursday. This has caused disruptions to the transportation of beer in and around Copenhagen.

Carlsberg’s truck drivers merged with the strike out of empathy. They are, however, free from the latest set of laws. The truck drivers are allowed to fetch three beers from the canteen since they often do not possess the time to have lunch there.

Bekke has enunciated that the trucks have alcohol ignition locks that thwart the drivers from driving in a state of drunkenness.
