Frankfurt, Apr 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Deutsche Lufthansa AG, the German flagship airline has been forced to cancel all its flights from Amsterdam and Brussels airports owing to the volcanic ash that has wrecked havoc with European Air Traffic. It was reported on Thursday that several of its flights to Britain as well as other parts of the Northern Europe had to be suspended because of the disruption caused by the volcanic ash in Iceland. A spokesperson for the airline said that Munich and Frankfurt airports would be among the worst affected lot. As a matter of fact, Lufthansa has more than 50 flights from Germany to London per day. While Lufthansa had to cancel many of its flights to Britain and other European countries, other airlines followed suit and flights had to be canceled for the second consecutive day.
The Eyjafjallajokull volcano is still emitting white smoke and fumes up into the Iceland sky and it is not certain when the eruptions will come to a close. It is risky to fly airplanes amidst sky replete with volcanic ash since it reduces visibility and can cause damage to the engine of the air-crafts. The NATS website indicates that the conditions are not likely to improve anytime soon. Lufthansa and other major Intercontinental operators have asked the fliers to keep checking their sites for further information and updates on the flights.
The tourists in UK and other European countries have got stranded in airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Southampton, and Manchester etc. Even countries like Holland, France and Scandinavia have been affected. The Dutch airspace operations have been restricted as well from Thursday.
