May 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) For thirty five years, Indra Tamang was the cook and as well as house cleaner for writer Charles Henri Ford and his sister, the actress, Ruth Ford. The butler worked in one of the most sought after neighborhoods of Manhattan. Now the address at which he worked belongs to him.

Ruth Ford died last year at the ripe old age of 98. At the time of her death, she owned two homes in New York’s Dakota Building, which once was visited by such celebrities as Tennessee Williams, Capote and Warhol. In her will, Ruth Ford, who was an actress, a model, and the wife of actor Zachary Scott, left her entire estate to her trusty butler, Indra Tamang, who was raised in a mud house in rural Nepal. Along with the two flats, Ms Ford’s estate also included a collection of Russian Surrealist art. The only items which were not left to the loyal servant of over three decades was some of her jewelry and clothes.

It was said that Ruth rarely saw or talked to her estranged daughter, Shelley Scott, and therefore wrote both Shelley and her two children, Ruth’s grandchildren, out of the will. When Ms Scott challenged the will in court, she was given a modest settlement.

Mr Tamang did the cooking and cleaning for Charles Henri Ford until Ford died, and then went on to do the same for Ruth Ford. He had a small home in Queens which he shared with his wife and three daughters. He is said to be “grateful, honored and humbled.”
