Dec 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Louisville International Airport authorities heaved a sigh of relief after the search for a bomb in the cargo area revealed that there was no explosive. The authorities were alarmed when a group of trained sniffer dogs detected something that seemed suspicious to them on Tuesday night. Sari Koshetz a TSA spokeswoman said that the Cargo area where the suspected pallet was located was evacuated after the incident. The airport decided to keep one of its runways closed for some time as a precautionary step. The air hub of the United Parcel Service is at the airport however the operations of the company were left unaffected by the development. The k9 sniffer team detected the potential explosive around 7 pm as it has been reported.
Thereafter the TSA sent an explosive ordinance disposal team. The cargo pallet belonged to Continental Airlines. However, it was not revealed whether the cargo was outgoing or incoming. Alicia Smiley a spokesperson for Louisville police said that the bomb squad scanned the suspected package for nearly two hours but nothing was found. The cargo was located at the airport’s west end. The TSA and FBI joined hands in the investigation after the alert was sounded. The Louisville Metro Police bomb squad took two hour and x rayed the package and at 10.30 they confirmed that the contents of the package were not dangerous.
It is difficult to say why the trained sniffer dogs zeroed in on a package that did not contain any explosive. The airport authorities however did not want to take any risk considering the holiday season has started.
