Lost Abbey To Change Label Following Controversy

Oct 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) What can be more rude than to have one’s belief mocked publicly? Vicky Noble seldom knew that she was in for a rude shock while looking for a fine ale in 41st Avenue Liquors, in Capitola, California. Famous for her occult abilities in Wiccan and Pagan circles Vicky Noble could not believe her eyes when she saw the label of Lost Abbey Witch’s Wit ale, which showed a witch being burnt at the stake. Disgust took over the initial shock and Vicky Noble went home to mail her friends and followers to prevent the brewer from continuing with this hate imagery.
She wrote in her email questioning if one could imagine the imagery of a black man being lynched or a Jewish person going to an oven. She states that such images will not be tolerated in the society anymore and the witch burning image should not be tolerated either. Thanks to the presence of facebook and emails, it took very little time for the information to circulate, and soon her followers and friends had joined in the protest. The next thing the brewery knew was that huge number of letters, faxes and comments made their way into the brewery.
A spokesperson for Port Brewing, owner of Lost Abbey, said that they have been accused of inspiring violence against women and are being compared to the violence in Darfur. He said that they are facing criticisms ranging from “This is offensive to pagans, to people saying we are responsible for all that is wrong in the world”. The controversy has got the brewery thinking about changing the label but the board will be taking a decision only after Halloween.
