Los Angeles gang member sentenced for killing a 4-year-old boy
March 19th, 2010 - 4:05 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) – A Los Angeles, California gang member was sentenced to 93 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a 4-year-old boy in January 2009.
Howard Astorga, 26, was convicted of one count of first-degree murder of Robert Lopez Jr., and one count of shooting an occupied motor vehicle.
On the afternoon of January 13, 2010, Astorga fired several shots to a passing-by vehicle while he and his fellow gang members were playing football on the street. Astorga used a .38 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
A stray bullet shot by Astorga hit little Robert Lopez in the chest. The boy, his sister and cousins were walking to a nearby park to play.
