July 11th, 2009 - 8:55 pm ICT by GD Tell a Friend -

demolitionIt is indeed a sad day for the dwellers of 223 Park Street in U.S. as they saw their homes getting demolished in front of their eyes. In the empty spot there used to stand a home that was 90 years old. The demolition of the house that took place on Friday was the result of the dispute between the neighbors and the owner of the new home.

The neighbors who have been living in the locality for a long time has earlier taken an endeavor to stop the demolition of the house by filing a case in court on June 24. Since the filling was incomplete, it was required of re-submission to the Landmark Preservation Commission on Wednesday. But in between this time period, the new owner of the plot had already issued the demolition permit for 223 Park St. Home and according to the issue the demolition followed on Friday. The owner of the house has been identified as a company named Jim Loftis and By Design Homes.

It has been known from sources that the owner had bought this 90 year old home for $122,000 in last May and his aim was to build a house on the same plot in consistent with the other homes in the neighborhood, in terms of size and architecture.

By Design Homes Partner Steve Whitall was quoted saying while the demolition was on progress, “This seems like it is the end, But as time goes on I think this will prove to be the beginning of removing an eye sore from the community.”

The neighbors wanted to save the home as they intended to establish a historical landmark on the 200 Block of Park Street.
