linNew York, Aug 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New York Fashion Week which is scheduled to commence next month in the Lincoln Center might have to bear the brunt of a dispute that has been brewing between the management of the new venue and the stagehand union that takes care of the event that takes place there. The union which consists of around 2,200 stagehands has threatened to picket the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week which is scheduled to commence from September 9.

The disagreement which is threatening to overshadow the biannual event involves IMG Fashion, the producers of the fashion week and the union Local One of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees which oversees the stagehand and other works of the different theaters of Lincoln Center. The bone of contention lies in the kind of contract that the union has with the Lincoln Center and the exact location where the IMG Fashion intends to pitch its tents for the high-profile event which is all set to take place next month.

Bruce Cohen, the spokesperson of the union has emphasized that the members of the union have the right to work in the fashion week while adding that it that if that does not happen, then the union would consider picketing as one of the options. The union spokesperson has stressed that traditionally this is the work of its members and so they expect to do it. However, the producers of the event has reiterated that there is no obligation to hire the union members although it has been hinted that the company intends to find “an amicable solution” for the disagreement.
