Light earthquake shakes southern Iran, no reports of damage
February 4th, 2010 - 3:54 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )TEHRAN (BNO NEWS) — A light earthquake shook southern Iran on Thursday morning, seismologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.5, and had a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), making it a shallow earthquake. Earlier, automated earthquake sensors had put the magnitude at a preliminary 4.9.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties following the earthquake, which struck at 2.09 a.m. local time.
Small and moderate earthquakes sometimes cause heavy damage in certain parts of the country due to poor construction.
