Light earthquake rattles Washington state, no damage

PORTLAND (BNO NEWS) — A light earthquake rattled the U.S. state of Washington on early Tuesday morning, seismologists said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 3.9-magnitude earthquake at 7.51 a.m. PST (1551 UTC) was centered approximately 3 miles (5 kilometers) northeast of Mossyrock, a city in Lewis County of Washington state. It struck approximately 9.1 miles (14.7 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.

The earthquake was initially measured at 4.5 on the Richter scale by the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center, but was later downgraded.

Residents reported feeling the light earthquake as far away as northern portions of Oregon state. However, there were no reports of damage or casualties.
