Light earthquake rattles San Francisco
July 24th, 2010 - 5:10 am ICT by BNO NewsSAN FRANCISCO (BNO NEWS) — A light earthquake struck offshore northern California on early Friday afternoon, causing some shaking in San Francisco, seismologists said.
The 3.5-magnitude earthquake at 2.29 p.m. local time (2129 GMT) was centered about 3 miles (5 kilometers) north-northwest of the city of Pacifica, or 9 miles (15 kilometers) southwest of San Francisco. It struck approximately 4.2 miles (6.7 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the California Integrated Seismic Network.
There were no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake, but many people reported feeling light shaking.
