Light earthquake hits off the coast of Oregon

PORTLAND, OREGON (BNO NEWS) — A light earthquake struck off the coast of Oregon on Thursday afternoon, seismologists said. No damage or casualties are expected.

The 4.5-magnitude earthquake at 4.27 p.m. local time was centered about 232 miles (374 kilometers) west-northwest of Barview, a census-designated place in Coos County, Oregon. It struck about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.

Damage or casualties from the earthquake were not expected, as the earthquake was located too far from land to be felt.
