London, Nov 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Lidl grocery retailer is now selling reindeer meat. This has come as a huge shock to many people, as Christmas is around the corner.

The supermarket chain Lidl is the first ever retailer to stock the reindeer meat in the form of steaks. The novelty item was launched this week and the frozen steaks cost $10 for a 350 grams pack. PETA officials are understandably up in arms against the frozen steaks. PETA spokesperson said that, “The idea of ‘Rudolph’ being slaughtered and sliced into steaks for a novelty Christmas dinner is revolting. Christmas is supposed to remind us of peace and goodwill - and the rest of the animal kingdom could do with a taste of it, rather than being tasted.”

Other animal rights groups such as vegetarians International Voice for Animals have also blasted the supermarket for their choice of luxury meat and esp. for the ill timing of the launch. Justin Kerswell who is a campaign manager said that Lidl is corrupting the magic of Christmas by this act. He also condemned that the industry is exploiting the wild animals. On their part, Lidl officials said that the animals were fed on exotic herbs and grass.
