Los Angeles, July 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Tuesday, Leslie Van Houten the follower of infamous criminal Charles Manson will face the California parole board with her appeal for the 19th time that she be released from the prison. Leslie Van Houten will face the board with not only a new lawyer but also a new case law that provides her with the best opportunity to be released. Leslie Van Houten had made her 18th appeal for release on parole before the parole board in 2007 but was declined.
The new lawyer of Leslie Van Houten, Brandie Devall is hopeful of a positive result this time and has reportedly said to media sources that she will put forward in front of the board the ruling by the California Supreme Court in 2008 and 2009 that has affected the standards for parole. She added that she would refer to the case of Sandra Lawrence; a convicted murderer who was set on parole after 23 years in prison. According to her the court at that time had said that the parole board could not refuse parole to a prisoner only on the basis of the crime committed by the convicted years ago, it should also have evidence that the prisoner is still a potential danger to the public safety.
As per reports, the chances of Leslie Van Houten getting a release from prison has increased this time as the convicted has shown positive psychological reports from her last parole appeal. At the same time she has been discipline free since her incarceration. Leslie Van Houten has also been an active participant in self-help groups in the prison.
