London, July 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Northern Ireland officials have released a statement in which they revealed that Lennox the dog has been put to sleep. Lennox was a pit bull terrier-type mutt and their type of dogs are banned in Britain, out of concern for public safety. He was taken into custody almost 2 years ago.

His owner was Caroline Barnes and she had testified in court that Lennox had never harmed anyone. She however admitted that he was aggressive at times. Caroline said that Lennox didn’t like strangers and he could be a danger to them, however when guests came over to her place then she used to muzzle him. She said that, “Lennox’s only issue is with strangers, which is when I would muzzle him. In my home environment he is not a danger.”

Caroline tried her best to reverse the court order which had ordered that the dog be put to sleep. She tried in vain to get the court to give over the ownership of the dog back to her, but it was not to be.

Northern Ireland’s most senior court instead stated that they were in sync with the ruling of the two lower courts, which had ordered that Lennox be put to sleep.
